0:04 We are very excited to announce
that AI assisted app generation 0:07 functionality is coming soon to Retool. 0:09 This will help you generate apps
faster while still using the same 0:12 Retool components and queries you know and love. 0:15 Let's take a look at how it works. 0:17 This new app generation functionality
will be embedded directly in the editor. 0:21 You can select a large language model to use 0:22 for your app generation and
type in your initial prompt. 0:26 Let's ask for an inventory management dashboard. 0:29 Right away we see a plan being
generated with a few different steps. 0:33 You can uncheck specific steps from this
plan if they're not needed or use the 0:36 chat interface to provide additional
feedback before finally approving it. 0:41 Once the plan is approved you will get a chance 0:42 to review any resources that need
to be created to support your app. 0:46 In this example we can see a music
inventory table will be created. 0:50 We can review the columns and
their data types and make any 0:52 necessary changes right within the chat interface. 0:55 You can also decide whether you would like
to seed the table with AI generated data, 0:59 which makes it easier to test
your app after it's generated. 1:03 After you approve the database schema, 1:05 the tables are generated and,
optionally, populated with data. 1:09 Let's kick off the app generation process. 1:12 You'll then see a real-time view of components 1:14 being chosen and transformers
and queries being configured. 1:18 Each component and query is automatically
assigned a descriptive name, 1:21 making your app's structure more
intuitive and easier to understand. 1:25 After all the components and
queries have been generated, 1:27 your app will be displayed on the canvas. 1:30 Your generated app already has all
sorts of best practices built in. 1:34 Concerns like form validation, correct input
data types, performant and safe database queries, 1:38 and more are all accounted for
from the very first generation. 1:42 We can also use this capability to
make changes to an existing app. 1:46 Let's say instead of the
default theme that was chosen, 1:48 we want to skin our app with a
different set of brand colors. 1:51 We can open the chat, which has
retained our history from earlier, 1:54 and ask it to update our app
with the new color scheme. 1:57 You'll then see some time being spent thinking
before our app's components are updated. 2:02 Just like before the chat interface will
be updated live as changes are made. 2:07 Even after these changes have been applied
to your app, you can always move back and 2:10 forth between generated versions
to see the differences over time. 2:14 And since all of your threads for
a given app are saved, you can come 2:17 back and jump between generated
versions of your app at any time. 2:21 When you're ready to make more
granular customizations you can 2:24 close the chat and edit your
app just like you're used to. 2:27 With Retool's new AI app generation capability, 2:30 you can create apps with natural language
in just a few minutes and still retain 2:34 the full control to modify and extend them
using our existing app building interface. 2:38 We're opening up early access soon and
we can't wait to see what you build!
